LUMIX

The Perfect Marriage Between Optical and Digital Technologies
Thanks to the ongoing partnership with Leica Camera AG, Panasonic’s Lumix range of Digital Cameras continue to set new standards. Each Lumix model is designed to help you make the most of your photographic creativity.

VENUS ENGINE III

Sharp, clear edges for smoother, crisper images
The Venus Engine LSI, we improved diagonal resolution by 50% over earlier models by extracting luminance signals from all of the pixels - red, green and blue. And the Venus Engine III even goes a step further. By adding the luminance signal from the green pixels in areas with horizontal or vertical lines, we have raised horizontal or vertical resolution by 10% compared to the previous engine while preserving the superb diagonal resolution. The result is fine, detailed image rendering with no color bleeding.

Chromatic aberration in the telephoto images is also corrected
Chromatic aberration occurs due to different color wavelengths. Magnified chromatic aberration appears as colour shifts at the image edges. This becomes more prominent at greater focal distances, so correcting it is a key to capturing sharp ultra-telephoto shots.
With wide-angle lenses, the light tends to be less intense at the image periphery, and thus image quality is lower. This is true of all lenses, no matter how precisely they are manufactured. The Venus Engine III incorporates technology that minimizes this distortion to deliver the finest images possible.

Superior noise reduction
Luminance noise and chromatic noise are reduced separately in the Venus Engine III, before and after signal processing. Both fine and coarse noise are minimized to produce beautiful, clear pictures from low to high ISO settings.

Intelligent ISO Control Prevents Blurring From Subject Motion.

Intellegent ISO Control also prevents blurring caused by subject motion, which was not preventable by MEGA O.I.S.
When Venus Engine III detects a moving subject, it automatically controls the ISO sensitivity and shutter speed according to the detected motion.

Optical Image Stabiliser (O.I.S)

The DMC-FX2, DMC-FX7, DMC-FZ3 and DMCFZ20 are equipped with our Optical Image Stabiliser (O.I.S) systems. A gyrosensor detects even the smallest handshake and integrally links the lens control to camera movement. Unlike digital systems and their pseudo compensation, Panasonic’s optical system provides precise compensation and no degradation in image quality.

MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) Minimizes Jitter - Even with over high zooming.
It is virtually impossible, when holding the camera by hand, to capture clear photos using a single-lens reflex 35mm camera with a telephoto lens.
At high magnification levels, even a tiny amount of hand-shake ruins the shot.
LUMIX has changed this. Its MEGA O.I.S. compensates for hand-shake, making it possible to take clear, sharp close-up shots of even distant subjects. Football players across the pitch, a child on a school stage, a bird high in a tree - LUMIX brings all these within reach. And because you don't need a tripod, you're always ready when a sudden photo opportunity arises.

Benefits

In Low-Light Situations you can take photos with Natural Atmosphere
In a Zoom Situations u can take sharp photos without a tripod
Leica DC Lens.

Leica’s world-famous lenses have a superb pedigree and an enviable reputation which makes them a natural choice for Panasonic digital cameras.

Our top-ranging Lumix cameras feature a lens system that has 13 elements in eight groups. This includes one dual-sided and two-single sided aspherical lenses. These aspherical lenses make the system more compact because they’re able to compensate for spherical irregularities: a common problem in large aperture lenses. A multi-coating lens process also reduces ghosting and flare effects. The result? Superb imaging at all focal distances. The DMC-LC1 incorporates a Leica DC Vario SUMMICRON Lens which features two aspherical lenses and a 3.2x optical zoom. The exceptional brightness of this lens enables higher shutter speeds which helps create an artistic soft focus effect. The DMC-FX2, DMC-FX7, and DMC-FZ3 use the Leica DC Vario ELMARIT lens. This lens provides excellent gradation with subtle tonal shading and a delicate soft focus effect. Pictures have expressive colouring and remarkable depth - the hallmarks of a Leica lens. The new DMC-FZ20 uses an enhanced version of the Leica DC Vario ELMARIT lens. It incorporates a single Extra-low Dispersion (ED) lens for greatly reduced colour irregularities. The ED lens offers photographers the chance to take professional and realistic looking pictures which have warmth.

Venus Engine ll LSI Circuitry

The most remarkable advancement is the complete improvement of the image processing LSI, the brain of a digital camera which handles the image processing. In the previous Venus Engine, the luminance signal is extracted from all RGB pixels to improve the diagonal resolution by 50%. In addition to that, the newly developed Venus Engine ll gains new imaging process which adds the luminance signal extracted only from the G pixels upon detecting the horizontal/vertical lines in the image. This results in the improvement of the horizontal and vertical resolution by more than 10% compared to the former Venus Engine, while maintaining the 50% in the diagonal resolution. Besides, the amount of the noise reduction is controllable according to the brightness level of each subject in the image, which reduces the noise in the dark areas as low as 1/3 without affecting the resolution in bright areas of the image. .

Enhanced Sensitivity with Total Megapixel CCD

The CCD employs a gapless lens design and an inner layer lens to boost sensitivity. By dramatically reducing the loss in light received by the photodiode, it delivers vivid and natural colours.

12x Optical Zoom

O.I.S is particularly useful in situations where the light levels are low or macro photos where camera-shaking often occurs. And it certainly comes into its own with the new 12x optical zoom systems featured on the DMC-FZ3 and DMC-FZ20. These models may have a compact body, but remarkably, their zoom lens have a focal distance of 4.6mm to 55.2mm - that's the same as 35mm to 420mm in an equivalent 35mm camera! Need to get closer still or shoot from a wider angle? Two conversion lenses are optionally available for the DMC-FZ20. The Tele Conversion Lens gives the camera the same zoom power as a 630mm lens, while the Wide Conversion Lens will give you the same wide angle capabilities as a 28mm lens. And with F2.8 aperture across the entire zoom range, both models give you crisp, clear and sharply detailed images, whether you’re shooting from a wide-angle or getting up close and personal with the 12x optical zoom.

Burst Shooting

Thanks to the further improved multi-task image processing, response has also been accelerated, resulting in the industry-leading release time log of approx 0.006(FX2) / 0.008 (FX7, FZ3, FZ20) sec minimum and a shutter interval of approx 0.3(FX2) / 0.4(FX7, FZ3, FZ20) sec for achieving more stress-free operation. It also boasts high consecutive shooting performance, providing shooting at 4 (FX2, FZ3) / 3(FX7, FZ20) frames/second at full resolution. Newly installed Infinite Consecutive Shooting function allows limit-free consecutive shooting up to the capacity of the SD Memory Card. .

SD Memory Card

Lumix cameras use SD Memory Cards which offer large recording capacities and fast data transfer rates. Each camera is equipped with an SD Card slot and a USB port to easily download your images to a PC, printer, DVD recorder, or any compatible SD device.

Batteries

Panasonic provides a wide choice of high performance batteries for the safe and long lasting use of your Lumix camera. Our exclusive range includes standard alkaline batteries for high drain appliances and rechargeables with increased running time.
