VIERA - Behind Today’s Technology
Your perception of television is about to change. Panasonic flat panel displays have always been the ultimate AV aspiration, but now we’ve created a new generation of plasma & LCDs which represent the perfect blend of science and art. You’re witnessing a whole new visual era: VIERA.
VIERA represents the pinnacle of TV evolution. Within an amazingly thin and lightweight body, each VIERA design features everything you’ll need to enhance your viewing experience. It is an AV concept that defies convention and exceeds all technological, aesthetic and performance boundaries. In short, VIERA is TV unlike you’ve ever seen, watched, or heard before.
This year sees our biggest range of flat panel displays. Eye-catching aesthetics, earpleasing acoustics, digital networking capabilities - the unique Viera range has it all and takes AV far beyond the conventional.
VIERA PLASMA TVs
High-Performance, Environment-Friendly Panel
Panasonic has totally revamped all major components. The phosphors and other panel materials have been upgraded; the ribs and electrodes have been redesigned with new shapes; and the type of gas has been improved. The result is a clear, crisp picture that provides easy, comfortable viewing even in a bright living room. Panasonic is also committed preserving the environment.
New Deep Black Filter
We reduced this filter's light transmittance so you can enjoy clean, beautiful images deeper, richer blacks. We also applied an original Panasonic anti-glare process to the filter surface to supress external glare and reflection.
Industry’s Highest Dark Area Contrast: Real Black Drive System
By reducing the pre-discharge emission when reproducing black, the New Real Black Drive System provides deeper, richer blacks and a stunning 4000:1* contrast. The result is dramatically enhanced image clarity and realism.
Superior Detail in Dark Scenes: Super Real Gamma System
The Super Real Gamma System provides the optimal number of sub-fields for each scene. This allows Panasonic plasma TVs to reproduce 1,024 shades of gradation for superior detail in dark scenes.
Clear Detail and Impressive Depth: MACH Enhancer
The appearance of an object as perceived by the human eye is influenced by the colours of the objects surrounding it. This phenomenon is known as the Mach Band Effect. Panasonic Mach Enhancer technology utilises the principles of the Mach Band Effect to enhance an object’s contours in a way that best suits the way the human eye perceives them. Noise is minimal, so you get a more natural looking image with clear details and impressive depth.
Bright, Sharp, High-definition Images: HD (High-definition) Panel with Bounded Cell Structure
With the TH-50PV30, you’re ready to enjoy the absolutely stunning image quality that the coming high-definition media will offer. The HD panel, with around 1,050,000 (1,366 x 768) pixels, can clearly, sharply and vividly reproduce even the tiniest details from high-definition signals or other high-image-quality sources.
The HD panel features a bounded cell structure in which wall-like ribs are used to wrap each individual cell. By increasing the area in which the phosphor can be applied, this dramatically improves both light-emitting efficiency and intensity, resulting in images of superior brightness.
Expansive, Cinematic-Type Sound: Smart Sound Speaker System
The new Smart Sound Speaker System features four 16-mm-wide speaker units arranged vertically on either side of the screen. Each speaker unit is remarkably slim, thanks to a new design in which a voice coil is formed in a planar configuration onto the diaphragm. With the speaker units surrounding the screen, the sound seems to pour out right from the center of the picture. Dialogue and other sounds are clear and easy to hear. Bass sounds are robust too, thanks to two round woofer units at the screen bottom. The sound presence is further enhanced by a twin construction design that independently drives the left and right woofers to spatially expand the rich, well-balanced bass tones.
Easy Playback of Digital Snapshots: SD/PC Card Slots
VIERA features both an SD Memory Card slot and a PC card slot, giving you an easy way to enjoy large-screen viewing of still images from a digital camera or other memory card-equipped device. Photos can be viewed as a slide show or in photo-album format. You can also easily rotate images using the remote control.
Multiple-source Entertainment on One Screen: Multi Window
VIERA lets you view images from two different sources at the same time. Select either Picture-and-Picture mode (which shows the two images on separate halves of the screen), Picture-in-Picture mode, or Picture-out-Picture mode.
Plasma or LCD?
How do I choose between Plasma and LCD?
Size matters when it comes to making a choice. LCD is at its optimum performance up to and including 32", whilst plasma offers optimum performance at 37" and above. Panasonic Viera Plasma TV is currently the UK's Nr1 best-selling large screen TV. (see our chart below to help you make a choice).
Which is more energy efficient, Plasma or LCD?
The energy consumption of both is actually about the same in normal operating conditions. An LCD screen consumption is constant whereas with Plasma it fluctuates according to the brightness of a scene, eg when a scene is predominantly dark , a Plasma will use less energy. All in all the energy efficiency evens out for Plasma and LCD.
Which technology has the longer life span Plasma or LCD?
The life span for both is dependent on viewing habits, but if both are watched for the same duration, one would expect the life span to be approximately the same, 60 000 hours, roughly twice the life span of older CRT technology.
VIERA LCD TVS
Superior Image Presence: New LCD AI
Panasonic’s New LCD AI technology uses Active Light Control and Active Contrast/Gamma Control functions, resulting in greater brightness, deeper blacks and superior gradation. Active Contrast/Gamma Control detects the brightness level of the input signal and increases contrast by dynamically extending the output luminance signal. Active Gamma Control uses a method called histogram detection to process the luminance distribution in real-time. Non-linear gamma correction is then used to boost gradation in the luminance areas containing the greatest number of image elements. The result is greater detail, depth and realism than ever before.
Active Light Control
This automatically detects the brightness levels of the input signal and adjusts the backlight accordingly in real-time. This represents a dramatic improvement over conventional LCD TVs, which commonly suffer from insufficient maximum brightness and a lack of depth due to weak black reproduction. The result is a greatly expanded dynamic range from black to white peak, with crisp, natural pictures that assure dynamic viewing.
Quick Motion Picture Response: Overdrive System
Panasonic’s advanced Overdrive System technology helps the LX1 series achieve fast response to moving pictures. Pictures appear quickly, and images are clear and sharp with minimal afterimaging. The Overdrive System technology applies "overdrive" to parts of the image that have medium brightness (such as skin tones), where conventional LCD TVs tend to have a lower response speed. This reduces the blurring that can occur in moving pictures.
True High-definition Images: HD (High-definition) Panel
The LX1 series sets a brilliant new standard in high-definition viewing. Boasting an HD panel with approximately 983,000 (1,280 x 768) pixels, these models relay all the detailed beauty of high-definition broadcasts and other high-image-quality sources. And, thanks to the industry’s highest levels of brightness (450 cd/m2) and contrast (500:1),they reproduce high-quality, true-to-life images from any HD source. The LX20 series also offers a wide, 170° viewing angle both vertically and horizontally, so you enjoy the same vivid, beautiful images from virtually any angle.
True-to-life, High-impact Stereo Sound: Wing-type Stereo 4-Speakers
Featuring two-way four-speakers on both sides of the screen, this sound system focuses the sound at the centre of the screen, and provides superb, true-to- life stereo imaging. Speaker units are housed in a bass-reflex speaker box that provides a flat frequency response all the way down to the extra-low frequency range for a deeper, richer bass.
Easy Playback of Digital Snapshots: SD/PC Card Slots
SD and PC card slots on the front panel give you an easy way to play back still pictures from various memory cards. Photos can be viewed as a slide show or in photo-album format. You can also easily rotate images using
